The lotus flower is a powerful symbol across various cultures and religions. In both Buddhist and Egyptian traditions, it represents the universe itself, while in Hinduism, gods and goddesses are believed to sit upon lotus thrones. According to Buddhist myth, the Buddha emerged atop a floating lotus, and his first steps on Earth were marked by blooming lotus flowers.

A maang tikka is a piece of jewellery typically worn by Indian women on the forehead, and are similar to the concept of head harnesses. It is composed of a chain with a hook on one end and a pendant on the other.
