Diya + Vijay Shree

Diya, tell us a little about yourself.
I'm a not-so-delhi girl born and brought up in Delhi. Clothes, flowers and food make me the happiest. I'm on my way to build a life I love, and some part of me still believes in fairy tales.

How long have you been in a relationship?
I surprise myself. Believe it or not, I've been in love with a remarkable man, for nearly a decade :P

What's your view on marriage?
Marriage by choice, and not compulsion, with someone you'd like to spend a large part of your life with can be a beautiful thing two people do together.

Tell us about your love for textiles.
I've always been a craft enthusiast with an innate love for Indian textiles. I've spent many childhood summer months learning how to embroider and sew with my grandmother and often spent hours admiring her collection of sarees. My wardrobe has almost always been part Indie, and I wish more people are taught to appreciate the uniqueness of the fabrics we weave in our country.

Tell us about Sendha. What does the word mean?
Sendha is a brand founded by the man I love - film maker & visual artist Rishabh Anupam Sahay and me. It is our labour of love and a natural extension of Rishabh's creative genius, our love for textiles, and my e-commerce experience.
Sendha from sendha namakliterally means rock salt. To us, the word is symbolic of un-processed purity and un-inhibited natural beauty. Brand Sendha celebrates culture, preserves age old artisanal techniques and creates inspired saree collections for the new woman of post modern India.

Your first collection?
Our first was a beautiful collection of colour-blocked Chanderi sarees available on Watch out for Sendha on Instagram real soon.

What's your take on 'new age' concepts like bachelorette, wedding photoshoots and bollywood perfomances?
I think it's more important to feel right deep inside than to play it out like a rehearsed show. But sure, these things can be fun! I know what song I'm going to dance to at mine ;)

What kind of bride would dress in Sendha for her big day?
A bride thats equal parts fierce and feminine.

Vijay Shree (Aunty), how long have you been married?
I have been married for 30 years now.

What's your view on marriage? Has it changed over the years?
Marriage, in my opinion, is an institution. Inspite of many marriages breaking, I feel marriage as an institution will always be there.

What would you want Diyas wedding to be like?
I want Diya's wedding to be a fun filled happy one. I will not spend too much money on it though. I would rather give it to Diya so that when she starts her life she is comfortable.

What item of clothing do you love wearing?
I love wearing sarees!

Any relationship advice for a strong, happy marriage.
Be sincere in whatever you do in life, whether you are in a relationship or a marriage.
