Animals have been a recurring theme throughout the history of jewellery design, their exquisite forms having captured the imagination of jewellers for centuries. The earliest amulets often took the shape of animals, worn to decorate the body as well as protect. Representations of fierce and dangerous creatures may have been intended to defend against hostile forces or to impart to the wearer their strength, speed, and agility.
Jungle is inspired by The Panchatantra, an ancient Indian collection of interrelated animal fables in Sanskrit verse and prose, arranged within a frame story. The surviving work is dated to roughly 200 BCE – 300 CE, based on older oral tradition. One of the most frequently translated literary products of India, these stories are among the most widely known in the world.
